In the opportunity to redevelop their 1959 MDT block A, the school’s vision was for the creation of an anticipated learning studio environment placing emphasis upon problem solving, design and manufacturing processes, integrating technology and the arts, and nourishing the team approach.
The architectural concept strives for visual openness and adaptability, placing emphasis upon activity above container. Multi functional design/making studios and specialist wood/metal and ceramics studios radiate around a forum area, with separation flexibility conditioned by environmental issues.
The design seeks to contribute to and facilitate, both in a functional and inspirational sense, the student feeling of well being. to provide a building where students are confronted with architecture as an element of culture; an introduction to the world of architecture through student daily school involvement.
