Locally owned, designed and developed, three quarters of this building is over water as it uses the existing wharf columns and foundations. As a result, it is a complex lightweight structure rather than a standard concrete construction.
The building is externally clad with 30,000 lineal metres of Australian White Cypress sustainable plantation timber, which is highly durable for the waterfront conditions. (Unfortunately Tasmanian Macrocarpa wasn’t available in sufficient quantities.) Tasmanian timbers are used internally throughout.
This construction site tour will allow you to see what it takes to make a 4.5 star hotel and you’ll even get to see some prototype suites.
