Alan Townsend is a heritage specialist who turned a midnight discovery in his 1850s home, Lonsdale, into a career uncovering Tasmania’s hidden interiors. Teaching himself historic wallpaper reproduction and working with Southern Midlands Council, he preserves and interprets colonial buildings across the state. His meticulous approach celebrates imperfections, craftsmanship and forgotten stories, turning walls, ceilings and fragments into a living record of Tasmania’s layered past.
