Oatlands Supreme Courthouse

7 Campbell St, Oatlands

Architect: John Lee Archer

Step into history at the Oatlands Supreme Courthouse, first built in 1829 by two convicts from the local chain gang. In 1834, Colonial Architect John Lee Archer gave it a classy makeover, adding a grand façade, elegant stone mantle, and a rare “waggon headed ceiling.” From 1841 to 1863, the Supreme Court sat here, hearing hundreds of cases, from cheeky highway robberies to grim murder trials. Justice was never boring in Oatlands!
