37 Cambridge Road, Bellerive

JUST TURN UP, NO BOOKINGS REQUIRED!

Architect: Alexander Cheyne (1838)

Designed in 1838 by Alexander Cheyne and completed in 1842, this colonial Gothic sandstone building first served as the Watch House and Lockup for Clarence Plains. Over time, it became Municipal Offices, Police Station, and later the town library before falling into decline. Restored after the Tasman Bridge disaster, it reopened in 1975 as the Bellerive Community Arts Centre. Enriched by leadlight windows, devoted artists, and Council care, the Centre remains a cherished creative and historic hub 50 years on.

Open: Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 November, 11am-3pm
