Family Sorell: A New Model for Housing
What if good housing could mean more than a house on a block?
Step inside Family Sorell and explore a different approach to creating affordable, high-quality homes. Following last year’s Open House Hobart conversation about affordable housing, this guided tour offers a chance to see how thoughtful planning and architecture can create places that are practical, connected and enjoyable to live in.
Rather than following the familiar pattern of detached houses on standard suburban lots, the development reintroduces the terrace house as a contemporary housing model. Homes are arranged to make better use of land while creating a stronger sense of connection between neighbours and the wider community.
Look closer at how the layout, shared spaces, streets and individual homes work together to create a neighbourhood and discover how relatively simple changes to the way we plan housing can open up new possibilities.
Come and have a look, explore the development and consider what the future of affordable housing could look like.
