Sorell Carriage Shed: A New Chapter
Step inside a surviving piece of Sorell’s railway history and discover a heritage building ready for its next chapter.
Once part of the Bellerive–Sorell railway, the Carriage Shed is a rare reminder of the railway line that connected Sorell with Bellerive from 1892 until its closure in 1926.
Look closely and you’ll discover traces of its working past, when the railway played an important role in connecting Sorell and the surrounding district with Hobart. Recently restored and made accessible, the shed is now becoming part of the emerging Sorell Community Cultural Precinct.
Come and explore the restored structure, hear the stories behind its railway past and discover how a once-utilitarian building is being given new life as a place for community, culture and connection.
A little piece of railway history, ready for a new journey.
