Architect: Unknown (1840-41)

Religion in Isolation

Tucked away on private property at Carlton River, this remarkable 1840 Congregational Chapel opens its doors for a rare glimpse inside.

For almost a century, the chapel was at the heart of the local community. It was a place for worship and celebration, but also for meetings, gatherings and farewells. Its simple form and intimate setting offer a glimpse into the lives of the families who helped shape this early rural community.

Step inside one of the area’s oldest surviving buildings, explore the adjoining historic burial ground and look closely at the details that have endured through generations.

Come and discover a place rarely open to the public, and uncover the stories of the people and community that gathered here for almost 100 years.

Open: Sun 8 Nov, 1.00pm – 4.00pm
