Design in the Making
Step inside Designed Objects Tasmania (DOT) and discover the people, ideas and making processes behind some of Tasmania’s contemporary design.
Based in the heart of North Hobart, DOT is a working community of designers, makers and artists who share studios, workshops, skills and ideas. Since 1986, it has provided a place where traditional craft knowledge meets experimentation, new materials and contemporary design.
Come and have a look behind the scenes and see where ideas move from sketches and experiments into furniture, lighting, ceramics, objects and more. Explore the workshops and discover makers working across timber, metal, ceramics, glass and other materials, using both traditional techniques and new approaches to making.
You’ll have the chance to see work in progress, meet the people behind the pieces and discover how Tasmania’s distinctive materials, landscapes and craft traditions continue to influence contemporary design.
And if something catches your eye, works can be purchased or commissioned directly from the makers.
Come curious, look closer and discover what happens when creative ideas meet skilled hands.
