One of Hobart’s best-known public parks, the architecture award-winning Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park has forged strong community pride with its quiet presence on the Montrose Bay foreshore. Two brightly coloured boardwalks extend across the water and link to a series of pavilions to rest, take in the view across the water, have a barbie or spot the pied and the sooties pecking about on shore. Further along the two kilometre foreshore walk, which now extends beyond the Derwent Entertainment Centre, is a striking concrete and coloured glass cantilevered pavilion that frames spectacular views of the mountain as well as Katsalidis’ MONA, all from a former staging point used in the construction of the Bowen Bridge.
