Between Old and New

What happens when an old cottage meets a thoroughly modern addition?

Step inside this 1850s cottage and former milk depot in the heart of Battery Point and discover a home where old and new have been carefully brought together by Archier.

The original building has been retained and celebrated, while a contemporary addition creates a new layer that is distinctly of its time. Rather than imitating its historic neighbour, the new work responds through the familiar Battery Point idea of house and garden, reflecting the fine-grained pattern of the surrounding streets.

Look closer and you’ll discover a thoughtful balance between connection and separation. Original features sit alongside new materials, spaces and details, creating a home that acknowledges its history while responding to the lives of its current occupants.

The result is both respectful and personal, shaped by the different ambitions of the people who live there and the character of the place they call home.

Come and have a look, explore the spaces between old and new and discover how a small piece of Battery Point has been given another chapter.
