JUST TURN UP, NO BOOKINGS REQUIRED!

Architect: William Porden Kay (1837), Graeme Korney (2012)

Born as a trooper’s residence in 1837, this building morphed into a watch house, council chambers and now Tasmania Police offices. A sliver of the old men’s lockup survives, complete with cell door, timber lining and possible inmate graffiti. Restored by Southern Midlands Council, it sports a lantern-topped chamber and tells a vivid story of law, order, reinvention and the colourful layers of Kempton’s civic past.

Open: Sunday 2 November, 3pm-4pm
