This small upper level addition spanning above a 1940s cottage provides a day room and deck with access to sunlight from sunrise to sunset. This beach house captures the spirit of a coastal holiday shack with its informal interior and vertical black-stained external timber cladding and white painted timber window frames. The use of local, reused and sustainable materials together with good insulation, high performance glazing, winter solar gain and summer sun shading were all pragmatic requirements.
