Reworking the Everyday

What can you do with a house that already has good bones?

Step inside this thoughtfully reworked 1957 West Hobart brick home and discover how architect Bek Verrier, together with Hamish Saul of Bek and Hame, has given an everyday family house a whole new life.

The renovation celebrates the character of the original home while opening it up to the way a young family lives today. At its centre, a striking new stair floods the house with light, connecting the kitchen to the garden and bringing a once-unused undercroft to life as a welcoming rumpus room.

Look closer and you’ll discover the thoughtful details. Elegant brick blade walls frame the rear extension, creating privacy while sitting comfortably alongside the original house and its street presence.

Rather than starting again, the project makes the most of what is already there, with materials, layout and construction carefully considered for sustainability, affordability and longevity.

Come and have a look, explore the transformation and discover how thoughtful architecture can make an existing home work harder, last longer and feel completely at home in its neighbourhood.
