“Everyone deserves a home: urban densification is the cure for the housing crisis”
This year’s panel discussion picks up where we left off from last year’s discussion about affordable, low impact medium density housing. Since then, the housing crisis has only deepened making high quality urban densification urgently needed.
At a time when the housing crisis only deepens, issues around the following provocation will be explored:
“urban densification is the cure for the housing crisis”
To respond to this provocation, we have brought together a panel of knowledgeable professionals. Not only will they share their insights about design, planning, and development of medium density housing in urban contexts, they will challenge the status quo and put forward their recommendations to turn the tide and make housing affordable for everyone. Equally, in acknowledgment of the wider community’s concerns about densification, panellists will shine a light on the possibilities and opportunities of urbanising the existing footprint.
Panellists are:
Scott Balmforth – Director, Terroir and Tasmanian Strategic Architect and Urban Design Advisor
Emma Riley – Director, ERA Planning and Environment
Emily Taylor – Architect, Core Collective, and European co-operative housing study tour delegate 2024
Liam Wallis – Founder and Managing Director, HIP V. HYPE
Will Harkness – Architect and Development Manager, Housing Choices Tasmania
Architectural critic and academic, Dr Helen Norrie Senior Lecturer in Architecture & Associate Head Students from the University of Tasmania, will chair the panel.
