Paul Johnston Architects, have over 20 years of architectural design and heritage conservation experience, and completed major conservation works to Domain House (1850) for the University of Tasmania, Heritage Management Plans for MONA (1956, 2010), the Theatre Royal, (1837) and the Queen’s Orphan Schools (1830). The practice has recently contributed to the Australian pavilion of the 2023 Venice Biennale, and has received national design award recognition for the adaptive reuse of an inner city garage into an award-winning restaurant.
City Hall Hobart was a competition design by ‘Rusty’ Butler and constructed with architects Ricards and Heyworth in the Federation Warehouse style with Romanesque and Anglo-Dutch influences.
The office is within the original Ladies Lounge servicing the hall mezzanine and later fitted out by the RAIA in a Post Modern design.
