Slow Beam
West Hobart (address given to registrants only)
BOOKINGS OPEN AT 10 AM ON THURSDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2023
Architect + Interior Designer: Hearth Studio (2019)
Designed as a unique Hobart getaway, Slow Beam is an architectural ‘jewel-box’ which cleverly merges the rugged bush setting with sophisticated modern design. This luxurious AirBnB celebrates Australian artists, makers and designers.
The design actively responds to the site by incorporating two linked pavilions that take advantage of an existing cutting from a previous owner’s abandoned earthworks. The northern facing rear of the house looks directly onto the existing rock cutting and steeply sloping meadow above, while views to the south take in the rooftops of Hobart and timtumili minanya/the River Derwent.
The interiors were an opportunity to play with perspective, form, and colour. Black stained ply interiors are balanced beautifully with opulent and joyously colourful custom carpet by Melbourne-based artist Esther Stewart, as well as artworks and designs by the likes of Grant Featherston, Anna Varendorff, Ebony Truscott, Kirsten Perry and Fred Ganim.
We are super excited about this open house.
Open: Saturday 11 November 2023, 10 am – 1 pm
