St David’s Cathedral is widely regarded as the finest Australian example of the work of leading Victorian architect George Frederick Bodley. Built in the Gothic Revival style, Bodley’s plans were followed throughout the 68-year construction and include stained glass windows, an arcaded entrance and impressive bell tower. The cathedral is on the register of the National Estate and has been the site for numerous public ceremonies and events.
This stone Gothic Revival cathedral is the second church on the site. The arcaded entry features a large west window with fine travery in the gable-end balanced by buttressed turrets. Other features include a simple square tower in Oatlands stone, with a castellated parapet and quatrefoil tracery.
