St George The Martyr Greek Orthodox Church

5 Antill Street, South Hobart

Architect: Hudson Roussos Architects (1958, 1981)

Consecrated in 1958, the Church of St George the Martyr was originally more of a small hall than a typical Greek Orthodox Church. A gift of adjoining land enabled the floor area to be doubled, adding a transept on either side of the existing nave, new circular columns and arches and a gallery. The existing temple was retained and a new dome added to reinforce the Byzantine style.

Open: Saturday 12 November, 10 am – 1 pm
