Stargazer Wines: A Room Among the Vines
What if a winery tasting room felt less like a cellar door and more like being invited into a friend’s home?
For Stargazer Wines owner and winemaker Samantha Connew, creating a private place to share her wines has been a long-held dream. Opened in 2025 among the vines of the Coal River Valley, this intimate tasting room brings together wine, architecture and landscape in a deceptively simple building.
From the outside, the building has the understated character of a rural shed, wrapped in zincalume and sitting quietly within the vineyard. Step inside and the experience changes. A dark timber-lined porch leads into a compressed hallway before opening into a generous room with expansive views across the vines and valley.
Look closely and you’ll discover how the architecture creates a sense of intimacy without competing with its setting. A handcrafted table, wood fire and seating for just 12 guests create the atmosphere of a private dining room, while simple timber joinery keeps the commercial elements of the winery quietly in the background.
The result is a space designed around the things that matter most: good wine, good company and a beautiful landscape. Rather than making architecture the centre of attention, the building creates a setting in which the wine and the experience of sharing it can take centre stage.
Come and have a look, explore the tasting room, meet the landscape through the architecture and discover how a small building can create a memorable experience.
