Tour Leader: Geologist, Dr Tony Webster

The Sullivans Cove historic pub traverse begins at the Brickworks Design Studio and takes visitors on a historical adventure through the tales of Hobart prominent pubs around Sullivans Cove.

Along the way, the tour visits Hunter Street, the Hope and Anchor, Hobart Hotel (Tom McHugo’s), Lark Distillery, Telegraph Hotel, Customs House Hotel, Irish Murphy’s, Waterman Hotel and much more. Following the original cove shoreline and the once-historic heart of Hobart,  visitors will see a series of significant hostelries along the way. The walk will end at the Parliament House Gardens and Salamanca at approximately 4 pm.

This tour is an adaptation of a geohistory walk that Tony Webster has previously led but with an emphasis on the pubs as landmarks along the route. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about the times past and geology of the Hobart waterfront and how the landscape influenced the early development of the city.
