The Bowmont
3344 Huon Hwy, Franklin (3344 Main Road, Franklin)
Architect: AC Walker (1906)
The Bowmont, in the riverside village of Franklin is a two-storey heritage listed building on the banks of the Huon River. Originally built in 1906 by renowned builders J. Dunn & Son, the Federation Free-style design and construction was typical of the builder’s work which can still be found throughout many parts of Hobart. A much loved building of the Huon Valley, the former bank / maternity hospital / derelict eyesore is slowly being reimagined using traditional methods that cherish and preserve its colourful history. Still a work in progress, upstairs will be a a light-filled two bedroom apartment for short stays, downstairs a studio for gatherings and photoshoots and outside a small kitchen garden.
