Duncan Meerding Studio

Shed 1/45b Burnett St, North Hobart

Saturday, Nov 07

Designer: Duncan Meerding

Inside the Studio: Light, Material, Making

Step inside the working studio of Hobart-based furniture and lighting designer Duncan Meerding and discover the hands, materials and ideas behind his internationally recognised work.

Inspired by the wild landscapes of Tasmania, Duncan creates furniture and lighting that celebrates the character of natural materials, including reclaimed timber. Rather than hiding imperfections, knots, cracks and marks, his work often invites us to look closer and appreciate what the material already has to say.

Explore the studio and get a glimpse of the journey from raw material to finished piece. See where ideas are developed, materials are selected and objects are made, and discover how sustainability, ethical practice and a close relationship between maker, object and customer shape the work.

Come and have a look behind the scenes, meet the maker and discover what happens when Tasmanian landscapes, materials and imagination come together.
