Urban Futures Studio examines how architecture can respond to real places. In 2024 the studio centred on Oatlands, Tasmania – exploring its rural character, heritage fabric and future opportunities – while also drawing comparisons with Ubara in coastal Japan. Students researched the town’s challenges and strengths, tested ideas and developed proposals for buildings and spaces that support Oatlands’ community, environment and evolving local economy.
