Towering over Hunter Street, the Port Tower Building was designed to provide a clear line of sight for all shipping within timtumili minanya/the River Derwent, from Iron Pot in the south to Selfs Point in the north. Opened on 17 September 1987, the home office for TasPorts marine pilots sits 36m above sea level and maintains much of its original 1980s interior.
